Milepost 5 Artist
Encaustic Fine Artist
Manuela Kalestiantz studied Art at the Superior Academy of Fine Arts in Lisbon, Portugal. She studied Painting, Sculpture, Space Geometry, Anatomy, Art History, Live Drawing. Her first love was Indian Ink on water color paper, she continued her Art studies once in the US and pursued Acrylics, Photography and Digital Art. Manuela started researching the world of Encaustics 4 years ago and fell deeply in love with this all mesmerizing Medium! She paints with Encaustic on birch panels, pours wax medium on birch panels and carves and applies low/high relief to her pieces. Her work is highly textured and organic. She gives classes and workshops from her Studio @ MilePost5 “The Studios” Building suite 216.
I hope to provoke a dialogue with the viewer and to illicit a desire to not only look at the end result as well as the creative process that generated it. I like to think that my carved and low /high relief pieces, are pushing themselves up from the panel, to inhabit a more dimensional space and set themselves free from the confines of the board. I love Encaustics with a very deep passion,…the scent of the wax permeating the Studio as I work, the pliability of the medium, the feel of it on my hands and fingers while I carve!
